With the rising fame of Yiwu market,over 15,000 more booths were set up in Huangyuan market from 1991 to 1994. Yiwu publishes the first nationwide limited standard

Recently,Yiwu artificial ornaments association cooperated with more than 30 enterprises to examine and approve the draft of Restriction on the Limits of Noxious Substance in Artificial Ornaments and its Testing Method.

Zhejiang Standardization Inst i t u t e ,National Daily Commodity Quality Inspection Center and some Yiwu enterprises to investigate the product inspection ability of key ornament enterprises in Yiwu,the main export destination of orn aments ,the safety factors concerned by customers,the happening of cargo detainment ,sales returns,recalls and their reasons . They eventually made the Restriction on the Limits of Noxious Subs tancein Artificial Ornaments and its Testing Method based on the investigation . In this standard, the restrictions on the limits of noxious substance in children’s ornaments, adults’ornaments ,and ornaments with or without direct contact to skin have been made respectively .
Meanwhile,a clear regulation on noxious substance testing methods ,testing rules and testing logo requi rement has been made.
The standard making of noxious substance in ornaments is the request of dealing with foreign technical barriers and will help
the establishment of technical standard system based on international standard .

Recently,the list of newly-approved 2008 Jinhua Famous Trademarks was released by Jinhua Administration for Industry and Commerce,which included 111 trademarks in total . Among them ,32 trademarks are owned by Yiwu enterprises, such as HUADING,accounting for 28.8% of the total. Besides, 39 Jinhua Famous Trademarks of Yiwu enterprises , suchas HONGYE,are confirmed to be extended. Up to now,the number of Jinhua Famous Trademarks has reached 200 in Yiwu. Yiwu to Build Largest Social Welfare Institution for the Aged people in Zhejiang
On December 2, public bidding started for the dismantling project of former Yile Residential Quarter, officially kicking off the redevelopment project of Yile Residential Quarter, a key project of Yiwu city in 2008. With an estimated investment of 380 million yuan and a total floor area of 170 thousand square meters, the project is divided into two phases, the first of which will cover a floor area of 110 thousand square meters and will be completed at the end of 2010. Export of Yiwu commodities to Russia and Brazil increases steadily
According to the statistics from the customs,export of Yiwu commodities to Russia and Brazil in the first three quarters of this year increased dramatically by 25.1% and 59.7% respectively compared with the same period of last year.
Related statistics say that the volume of export to Russia in the first three quarters reached US$87.87 million,an increase of 25.1% compared with the same period of last year. The increasing rate is 32.5% higher than the same period of last year. The volume of export to Brazil reached US$43.21 million,an increase of 59.7% compared with the same period of last year. The increasing rate is 36.1% higher than the same period of last year. In general,there is an increase of 14% for the export of Yiwu commodities in the first three quarters.
After the toys crisis and US subprime mortgage crisis broke out,many Yiwu enterprises managed to explore new markets in Russia and Brazil which actually enlarged the export instead of decreasing it.

Legend of Yiwu
As early as in 222 B.C., Wushang County was established while its name was derived from a doleful legend.
It is said there lived a man called Yan Wu. Yan was so poor that he even didn’t have money to bury his father after his death. He had to dig the earth to make a tomb by his hands, which made his hands bleeding. Divine black crows in nearby trees were moved by Yan’s filial piety. They helped Yan by taking clods in their mouths from faraway. Some crow’s beaks were hurt, so there was even blood in the clods. There came the name of Wushang, meaning loyalty. Like these crows, Yiwu people have inherited the virtue of loyalty generation after generation.
In 624A.D., it was renamed Yiwu, and was promoted to a city in 1988. Yiwu has been awarded the honorable titles of “Home of Chinese Martial Arts”, “Home of Chinese Modern Folk Painting” and “Home of Operatic Songs”.
Yiwu has undergone two thousand years of difficulties while achieved 2,000 years of development.
It is also the cradle of many historical celebrities and outstanding personalities, including the famous poet Luo Binwang of Tang Dynasty, General Zong Ze of Song Dynasty who heroically fought Jin aggressors, and the renowned physician Zhu Danxi in the period of Jin-yuan era . Modern educator Chen Wangdao, literary theorist Feng Xuefeng, and historian Wu Han were also from Yiwu.

Namibian Commodities will appear in Yiwu Market
On July 22 to 24, Namibian Ambassador, led a delegation to Yiwu for an official visit. Mr Li Xuhang, the vice mayor of Yiwu municipal people government, met the delegation.

Mr Li Xuhang figured there were more than 11 African countries¡¯ commodities had been introduced into the Africa Hall of Yiwu International Trade Mart, but no commodities from Namibia. He hoped Ambassador could help and introduce some characteristic Namibian commodites to Yiwu.
Namibian Ambassador said he got a deep impression after visiting Yiwu International Trade Mart and local well-known enterprises. And he figured he would pass all detailed information he had seen and learned in Yiwu to Namibian Government, and let them know the importance of the development of economic and trade relations between Namibia and Yiwu. He also promised Namibia would be the 12th of African countries who exhibits commodities in Africa Hall of Yiwu Market.

Yiwu's water quality has improved
